Gingerbread Project 2013

This year, the theme was "Angry Birds". Making the birds themselves turned out to be the most time consuming, with that triangular-shaped yellow guy the most challenging. I ended up building a rough pyramid shape out of gumdrops and then added layers of icing to make the shape.  With so many layers of icing, it was very fragile until it fully dried. I impatiently handled it too soon, and it had to be remade a number of times.

The actual assembly turned out to be pretty easy but took a lot of time. I had to wait for the icing to dry before adding the next layer so it took almost 2 days of icing and waiting before it was finally done. A rasp was the perfect tool to smooth the edges and sand the constituent parts to equal sizes. The slingshot is made out of black licorice and the trees help to fill it out -so there's enough for everyone to eat after Christmas.

Looking forward to throwing the birds at it and knocking those pigs down!

Special thanks to Tegan for the great photos!
